Job title: ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF COSTUME DESIGN Company: Ithaca College Job description : Job Description: Situated in the beautiful Finger Lake region of New York, the Ithaca College School of Music, Theatre, and Dance is hiring a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Costume Design to join a faculty dedicated to inclusive ideas and practices in all that they do - from materials, current events and history taught in courses, to de-colonizing the curriculum, our production season, and our points of view towards admission, recruitment, and retention. The position begins on August 16, 2024. The successful candidate will teach assigned classes at the undergraduate level in the following areas: costume design, cultural context for theatre, rendering, theatrical design foundations, and other courses relating to their experience and will mentor student costume designers in production; participate in departmental, school, and college service; and advise students. The professor will work closely with our Costume Technology faculty and the Costume Shop Manager. The entire Center, as well as the Department of Theatre Production and Management, is dedicated to collaboration and excellence in teaching and student mentoring. Qualifications: An MFA in theatrical design (or appropriate terminal degree) completed by August 2024 is required; a current record of professional activity and demonstrable potential for successful college-level teaching within the context of an interdisciplinary and immersive liberal arts education is preferred. Applicants must possess a background in professional costume design, and connection to professional networks to aid in creating a bridge between our students and the profession. Ithaca College's theatre production and design major is part of a BFA program where undergraduate students design, build, perform, and manage all our produced theatrical season. Our program focuses on preparing students for the rigors of professional theatre, while examining the power structures and work culture within the theatre industry.
