ABOUT THE DIVISION The Community Learning Center (CLC) empowers a diverse community of adult learners to transform their lives and realize their potential through education, skills development, and community participation. Students are predominantly low-income Cambridge residents; come from a variety of ethnic, linguistic, and racial backgrounds; and are currently enrolled in English or Adult Basic Education classes or training. ABOUT THE ROLE The CLC's Part-time ABE Reading teachers are responsible for teaching classes, writing lesson plans, developing instructional materials, providing ongoing assessment of students, reviewing goals and achievements with students, and maintaining records of student participation and progress. They may serve on a team, and they may serve as part-time representatives to staff and department meetings. We are looking for a committed individual who will flourish in these roles. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: We are looking for Adult Education Reading Teachers who will: Dynamically teach Reading classes (NRS Levels 1-2/GLE 0-2.9 through NRS Level 6/GLE 9-12, depending on interest and experience) to adult learners, whether in person, hybrid, or online, depending on program needs Provide scaffolded, explicit instruction, practice, and assessment to help students achieve educational and personal goals. Work as a team with other teachers and staff to develop materials, lessons, and share best practices. Engage in ongoing professional development to continually improve our services. We are looking for Adult Education HiSET Test Prep Teachers who will: Dynamically teach online HiSET Test Prep classes to adult learners, including test taking strategies, strategic reading, study skills, test format. Manage student participation in an online HiSET Test Prep program. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Experience teaching reading and/or writing. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Knowledge of methods and materials used in reading instruction. Sensitivity to the needs of the adult learner population.
