Job title: Associate Director of Academic Success Company: Dominican University Job description : POSITION TITLE: Associate Director of Academic Success FLSA STATUS: Salaried, exempt DEPARTMENT: Division of Student Success & Engagement REPORTS TO: Director of Academic Success JOB STATUS: Full-time (at least 37.5 hours/week), 12-month LOCATION: Hybrid - 1 day remote per week PRIMARY PURPOSE/ POSITION SUMMARY: The Associate Director of Academic Success is a full-time position in the Division of Student Success & Engagement (SSE). The Associate Director provides leadership for the holistic care aspects of the Academic Success Unit. This role also co-leads the Transitions program, a cohort-based conditional admit program designed to support access and success for students who may not otherwise be able to attend Dominican, along with a faculty co-Director. Serving as a core member of the Student Care Network, this role will provide case management for the Assessment & Care Team and particular cohorts of students, as well as serve as a key unit administrator of the case management system. The Associate Director is sensitive to the needs of a diverse student body, and committed to fostering students' personal, cultural, educational, and intellectual development consistent with the mission of Dominican University. JOB COMPONENTS/PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Academic Success Supervise three professional staff in academic success, providing individual support and team cohesion in meeting unit goals and expectations (Assistant Director for Coordinated Care, Academic Success Coordinator, Graduate Academic Success Coordinator) Teach ID 102 Strategies for Success on rotation with other staff to support students on academic notice in building skills, confidence, and engaging in resources to promote their academic success Provide case management support for individual students, connecting students with appropriate resources, documenting interactions and recommendations, and following up appropriately with student and other stakeholders Collaborate with Director of Academic Success to provide vision and strategic direction for the unit Transitions Program Leadership Design program and learning outcomes for Transitions alongside a faculty counterpart utilizing theoretical frameworks and data on institutional and national retention trends, and considering organizational outcomes, goals and values Collaborate with university stakeholders to streamline Transitions recruitment and admission process Collaborate with on and off campus partners to plan and execute a 2-week summer bridge with a residential component Manage co-curricular mentoring program including the hiring and supervision of peer mentor and planning activities with personal, academic, leadership, and professional development components Oversee implementation of Associated Colleges of Illinois (ACI) grant (roughly $20,000-30,000), participating in meetings regarding grant activities and providing data/reports in a timely fashion Teach Transitions First Year Seminar and serve as academic advisor (after one year running the program) Case Management Administration In partnership with the Executive Director of Retention, serve as administrator of early alert and referral system, reviewing new reports and assigning cases to the appropriate case manager Student Care Network leadership: help plan and facilitate weekly team meetings Serve on the Assessment and Care Team (ACT) to coordinate support for complex student cases Provide support for faculty development & training through workshops, departmental visits, and one-on-one consultations Review data to inform practice, refine workflows, and design new interventions to support student success Perform other duties as delegated or assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in education, counseling, or social work, or related field At least 3 years of experience working in an educational setting providing students with academic support (i.e. coaching, counseling, or tutoring), case management support, or holistic student interventions Experience working with a diverse study body and designing supports to meet student needs Proficiency in MS Office programs and student database systems Capacity to present to and facilitate in small and large groups Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage time and tasks independently to meet work objectives Ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters related to the position Must be committed to fostering an equitable and inclusive working and learning environment Preferred Qualifications: Understanding of college student development theory Teaching experience at the college level Experience supervising professional staff Understanding of grant management and guiding staff to meet objectives Excellent oral and written communication skills; team-building and cross-cultural interpersonal skills Experience with case management and basic needs resources assessment and navigation (I.e. local and state housing support resources, SNAP and other federal benefits, health care for uninsured) Previous experience with HSIs or minority serving institutions Bilingual in Spanish and English EEO Statement Dominican University is proud to be an equal opportunity employer and is dedicated to the goal of building an equity-centered faculty and staff committed to teaching, working, and learning in a multicultural environment.
