Surety Assistant Underwriting Manager

IAT Surety has an immediate opening for a Surety Assistant Underwriting Manager in our Walnut Creek, California. This role will serve as a point member of our underwriting team, handling routine underwriting responsibilities including but not limited to the below, in a fashion consistent with the company policy and procedures. This involves interfacing with regional office Underwriters, various home office personnel, agents, and principals. Please note, IAT works on a hybrid schedule, working from the office Monday through Wednesday with the option of working remotely Thursday and Friday.

Responsibilities
  • Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities
  • Financial and account analysis of construction companies, authority, and referral requirements for consideration of new, existing and renewal business.
  • Requesting and gathering financial information on assigned accounts.
  • Maintain agency relationships and assist in developing or strengthening relationships with agents that are not directly assigned.
  • Market independently to our agent and broker partners with an emphasis on production
  • Enhance IAT’s presence in the marketplace
  • Provide general direction to the Bond Underwriting Assistants for bond processing and the Contract Underwriters in Walnut Creek.
  • Formulate quality recommendations to Branch and Home Office on assigned accounts and agents.
  • Rate and review bonds for premium and classification accuracy.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of files and verify that all necessary documentation is complete in file.
  • Act as the primary service contact and visit agents assigned by the Regional Manager to foster and maintain an ongoing relationship.
  • Accurately communicate knowledge of assigned accounts to Branch and Home Office personnel via written and verbal means.
  • Prioritize workflow to ensure work is done in a timely fashion and all deadlines are met.
Qualifications:Must Have:
  • Bachelors’ degree in Finance, Mathematics, Business or related with at least 6 years-experience in Contract Surety or equivalent.
  • Equivalent is defined as 9 years of relevant Contract Surety underwriting experience.
  • Knowledge of Surety
  • Passion for marketing and developing relationships
  • Strong competency in quantitative and financial analysis
  • Requires strong math aptitude, excellent verbal and written communication
  • Desire to develop as a leader
  • To qualify, applicants must be authorized to work in the United States and must not require VISA sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment purposes.
Preferred to Have:
  • AFSB industry designations
  • Experience with both contract and/or commercial surety
  • Existing industry relationships

Compensation:Please note, that the annual gross salary range associated with this posting is $118,000 – $147,000. This range represents the anticipated low and high end of the base salary for this position. Actual salaries will vary based on factors such as a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, and geographical location related to this specific role. The total compensation will include a base salary, performance-based bonus opportunities, 401(K) match, profit-sharing opportunities, and more.
