Location & Work Model

This role is based in Croatia, with our offices located in Zagreb. We follow a hybrid working model, including occasional travel to the office.

Language & Communication

While our Croatian office operates primarily in Croatian, we collaborate with multinational clients. Datatonic is an English-speaking company, so we are looking for candidates fluent in English, both written and spoken, as it is our main language of communication.

Your Mission

We are looking for a Data Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in data warehousing and integrations, proficiency in Python or Java programming, and experience with version control systems like Git.

What You’ll Do
  • Data Platform Development: Develop optimised and scalable data platform solutions to meet business needs.

  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Support data scientists, analysts, and fellow engineers in delivering high-quality data products.

  • Data Governance & Security: Implement and maintain best practices in data governance and security.

  • Pipeline Monitoring & Optimisation: Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve data pipeline performance and reliability.

What You’ll Bring
  • Educational Background: Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics/Statistics, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Data Integration Experience: Hands-on experience in data integrations and pipeline development.

  • Professional Experience: Minimum of 2 years’ experience in data engineering or backend software development.

  • DevOps Familiarity: Understanding of DevOps practices and workflows.

  • Language Skills: Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

Bonus Points If You Have
  • Cloud Platforms: experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.

  • Modern Data Stack: Familiarity with tools in the modern data stack (e.g., dbt, Snowflake, Airflow).

  • Big Data Technologies: Experience with Hadoop, Spark, or similar big data frameworks.

  • Infrastructure as Code: Basic knowledge of IaC tools like Terraform or Pulumi.

  • Automation & Scripting: Experience with bash scripting and automation processes.

  • Containerisation & Orchestration: Basic experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
