Manager, UX Design
About the Role:
CloudZero’s Product organization is looking for a technically-proficient, customer-centric, and innovative Manager, Technical UX Design to lead and contribute to the design of user-centered solutions that translate complex technical functionality into elegant, intuitive experiences. In this role, you’ll manage a small team of two UX designers while also operating as an individual contributor on high-impact projects. You’ll bring a deep understanding of frontend technologies, system architecture, and cloud infrastructure—and apply that knowledge to craft powerful interfaces that make complex data accessible and actionable.
As a player-coach, you’ll drive design strategy, guide implementation, and foster collaboration across engineering, product, and architecture teams. You’ll use design sprints or similar methodologies to prototype and test new capabilities, especially in the areas of data visualization, dashboard design, and technical workflow optimization. Your design work—and that of your team—should be technically informed, empathetic toward engineers and technical users, and grounded in feasibility.
Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Development
Lead and mentor two Technical UX Designers, supporting their growth, design execution, and prioritization.
Foster a culture of technical curiosity, design excellence, and collaborative problem-solving.
Partner with product managers, engineers, and architects to define and deliver UX strategy for technical features.
Advocate for the needs of technical users across all stages of product development.
Hands-On Design & Strategy
Conduct research with technical users including developers, DevOps engineers, and FinOps practitioners to understand mental models, workflows, and pain points.
Design complex data visualizations, dashboards, and workflows that translate infrastructure and cost data into intuitive, actionable interfaces.
Create technical user flows and interaction patterns aligned with how engineers think and work.
Develop sophisticated, interactive prototypes that accurately simulate system behavior and data relationships.
Design for technical touchpoints including APIs, CLIs, integrations, and automation workflows.
Translate complex infrastructure concepts and technical metrics into meaningful visualizations and design patterns.
Design Execution
Collaborate directly with frontend and backend engineers to ensure technical feasibility and implementation fidelity.
Maintain and evolve our technical component library within the design system, with emphasis on data visualization.
Apply strong information architecture practices to organize technical content and workflows.
Document technical design requirements and hand off detailed specs to engineering partners.
Lead usability testing with technical users and iterate based on feedback.
Qualifications:
6+ years of experience designing UX for technical products, developer tools, or enterprise systems.
2+ years of experience in a people-leadership, mentorship, or team lead capacity.
Strong understanding of frontend technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern frameworks.
Proven ability to design for technical users (developers, SREs, FinOps, IT professionals).
Expertise in designing dashboards, workflows, and data-intensive tools.
Deep knowledge of Figma and experience maintaining reusable, scalable design systems.
Strong background in data visualization design and communicating complex metrics clearly.
Understanding of cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and/or developer experience.
Ability to read technical documentation or code and apply insights to design work.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Experience in agile environments and comfort with rapid iteration cycles.
Familiarity with FinOps or cloud cost management is a strong plus.
