Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist

Summary

The Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist reports to the Manager of Environmental Health and Safety. They are responsible for assisting with the required oversight, management, reporting and analysis for EPA, FAA (Hazardous Materials), FDA, OSHA, and USDA programs. The EHS Specialist is also responsible for assisting with communications to and from industry regulators, such as the FAA, OSHA, and Federal/State/Local entities. The EHS Specialist conducts program oversight by monitoring regulatory changes, performing routine reviews of internal procedures and checklists to ensure regulatory compliance, developing and/or enhancing processes/procedures as necessary, maintaining open communication with all departments and coordination / participation in injury and incident investigations.

Combination of Education and Experience will be considered. Must be authorized to work in the US as defined by the Immigration Act of 1986. Must pass a Criminal Background Check.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree

Education Details:Bachelor's degree in Environmental health & safety or relevant safety / regulatory fields OR equivalent years of experience in related fields.

Certification: Yes

Certification Details:OSHA 30-hour Certification (or ability to obtain within the first six (6) months in the position).

Years of Experience:Minimum five (5) years of relevant aviation experience and/or two (2) years of specific, full-time experience working directly in safety and/or regulatory programs which interface with the following government entities: OSHA, FAA, FDA, USDA, or EPA.

Job Duties

•Routine monitoring of all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, standards, and codes; notify management of any necessary changes.

•Complete permit submissions and renewal applications.

•Conduct investigations and follow-ups of notices of non-compliance identified through internal or governing body inspections.

•Serve as a point of contact for agency, company, community environmental, health and safety inquiries.

•Maintain injury and injury investigation information within the safety database and ensure regulated OSHA Log reporting accuracy.

•Conduct risk assessments related to jobs performed (Job Hazard Analysis) and new equipment introductions.

•Facilitate HQ Safety Committee meetings and communicate minutes to committee members and other applicable parties.

•Drive procedures regarding labeling, storage, spills, or disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous materials.

•Review training courses and content, ensuring compliance with governing body regulations and Allegiant policies/standards.

•Maintain thorough familiarity with all aspects of each facility’s emergency contingency plans.

•Review and revise policy/procedures on a regular basis and submit revisions of Allegiant manuals on a regular basis, ensuring they are compliant with applicable federal state regulations.

•Provide, maintain, and monitor all environmental management activities including, but not limited to, environmental educational programs, hazardous waste programs, storm water programs, wastewater discharge programs, etc.

•Review Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for newly purchased/existing chemicals utilized within Allegiant operations, ensuring the SDS database remains up-to-date and that chemical hazards are identified and communicated.

•Develop and facilitate training on EHS initiatives, compliance topics, and required OSHA/Environmental training.

•Prepare reports, documents and procedures as needed for regulatory audits.

•Perform field safety inspections and observations.

•Other duties as assigned.

Office - While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, see, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, key board, printer, and phone. May be required to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 20 lbs. May be required to work various shifts/days in a 24-hour situation. Regular attendance is a requirement of the role. Exposure to moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phones, printers, and foot traffic), temperature and light fluctuations. Ability to work in a confined area as well as the ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time. Some travel may be a requirement of the role.
