POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Product Research & Insights Specialist is a full-time role that serves as part of PowerMyLearning's Product Team and reports to the Managing Director, Product and Programs. The Product Research & Insights Specialist plays a crucial role in shaping product development and demonstrating impact by designing and executing user research, managing reach and usage reporting, and collaborating with external evaluators on impact and efficacy studies. The Product Research & Insights Specialist ensures that product decisions are grounded in evidence and user needs. The ideal candidate brings analytical rigor and deep curiosity about how teachers, students, and families experience our products as well as some design experience.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Product and User Insight (60%)
  • Develop and lead user research efforts to inform product strategy and feature development, including field interviews, surveys, usability testing, and prototype validation with teachers, administrators, students, and families.
  • Analyze qualitative and quantitative data from user interactions, platform usage, and pilot tests to identify actionable insights that shape product direction.
  • Translate academic research and emerging findings in learning science, family engagement, supplemental math instruction, and AI in education into actionable design principles and product decisions.
  • Collaborate closely with product manager, content lead, designer, and engineers to embed user voice in the discovery-to-delivery process and ensure research is integrated into the product development lifecycle including creating lo-fi wireframes to visually communicate design priorities.
  • Synthesize and communicate research findings through clear, compelling reports and presentations tailored to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support efficacy storytelling by generating evidence about how and why the product works for key user groups, especially in the context of new AI features and expanded grade-level content.
  • Product Data Reporting (30%)
  • Track core metrics for reach, usage, and engagement to support internal decision-making and external communications with funders, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Align research activities with grant and partnership requirements, providing accurate and timely data, insights, and narratives that support funding renewals and deepen stakeholder trust.
  • Product Research Strategy & Roadmapping (10%)
  • Build a lightweight product research infrastructure, including templates, workflows, and protocols for field research, insight synthesis, and cross-functional sharing of findings.
  • Maintain a product research roadmap aligned with product development, grant deliverables, and partnership milestones to ensure timely insight generation and reporting.
  • Maintain a library of relevant academic research to inform the organization's strategy, product vision, and public thought leadership.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

    Required
  • 3+ years of experience in user research, educational research, or related roles.
  • Experience in edtech or K–12 education settings.
  • Proficiency in qualitative and quantitative research methods.
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Qualtrics, Looker).
  • Experience using R, Python, or similar for statistical analysis.
  • Familiarity with AI technologies in educational products.
  • Basic knowledge of Figma.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
    Preferred
  • Experience with grant reporting and liaising with external evaluators.
  • Some UX/UI design experience

COMPENSATION

This salary for this position is $108,000 per year and is non-negotiable.
