What we're looking for

As part of this role, as a Senior Human Factors Specialist, you will provide specialist knowledge to support client projects and the strategic direction for the Human Factors team.

The position will ideally be based in one of the following locations (Southampton, UK; Bristol, UK; Halifax, Canada; Miami, USA; Dubai, UAE) however we are open to hybrid/remote working from other locations.

    You will:
  • Lead and support projects within the Human Factors Team ensuring that they are managed and delivered to a high quality, within budgetary and contractual commitments.
  • Lead and support multidisciplinary projects, working alongside other technical teams within Lloyd's Register, ensuring that Human Factors expertise are delivered to a high standard and project commitments are met.
  • Support the Team Lead deliver the department's strategic vision and goals.
  • Establish, develop and maintain long-term client relationships, using feedback to continually enhance our existing portfolio of services, processes / procedures and deliverables.
  • Expand on or develop business opportunities to offer clients and where necessary present and promote these internally and externally.
  • Develop technical proposals for clients, including estimated costs and timescales for delivery.
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline, knowledge and industry awareness, including the support of relevant working groups, seminars and conferences.
  • Support the development of others within the team through coaching and effective knowledge sharing.
  • Plan and participate in exciting and diverse global projects, including regular international travel to shoreside client locations and sailing with vessels of various types.
  • Take on a people management role within the team (if interested and competence is demonstrated).
    You will need:
  • A degree or equivalent from a tertiary organisation recognised by Lloyd's Register in Human Factors Engineering, Psychology, or a related field (minimum of two years programme) or Qualifications from a marine or nautical institution and relevant sea-going experience as a certificated ship's officer.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience working as a Human Factors specialist with experience in one or more of the following:
  • Human Factors Engineering / Ergonomic Assessments
  • Human Reliability Assessments (HRA)
  • Human-Centered Design
  • Working Environment / Control Room Design
  • Usability (GUI) and User Experience (UX) Assessments
  • Safety / Organisational Culture Assessments
  • Workload Assessments
  • Membership of an appropriate professional institution (E.g., British Psychological Society, Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors, etc.).
  • Experience and technical knowledge in Human Factors techniques / principles, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in conducting user research, interviews, testing, and data analysis.
  • Customer focussed, proactive and highly motivated to support clients, by meeting their deadlines and regularly updating them on progress.
  • Excellent communication / influencing skills as well as strong team-working and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent presentation skills, presenting to a diverse audience.
  • Proficiency in the English Language commensurate with the work, with the ability to produce and technically review comprehensive and detailed written reports.
  • Ability to travel internationally to client sites (shore-based facilities and aboard vessels)
  • Good level of fitness in line with ENG 1 medical certification (or equivalent) requirements.
  • Experience in Marine, Oil and Gas and/or Energy Sectors. (desirable)
  • Project management experience. (desirable)
  • Training delivery / workshop facilitation experience (desirable)
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain UK or Canada Security Clearance (desirable).
  • Computer Aided Design (CAD) experience (desirable)
  • Workload and fatigue management experience (desirable)
