Medical Billing Experts, LLC is a fast-growing, Tampa-based consulting firm that prepares audit-ready & court admissible billing reports for defense firms and insurance carriers in personal-injury and wrongful-death litigation. Our experts analyze & reduce plaintiff medical bills to statutory benchmark rates and deliver clear, defensible opinions that hold up under scrutiny.

The Engagement

We are expanding our panel of Certified Professional Coders (CPCs) to handle case-specific report work in Florida and Georgia. Contractors must be local to the venue of each assignment so they can testify—live or by video—as the case requires.

    Core Responsibilities
  • Review medical records and invoices for accuracy, correct coding, bundling, and compliance.
  • Apply statutory benchmarks (e.g., FL §768.0427, GA O.C.G.A. §51-12-5.1) to determine reasonable charges.
  • Prepare concise, spreadsheet-driven exhibits that compare billed charges with state-mandated rates.
  • Draft summary opinions and, when needed, provide deposition or trial testimony.
  • Coordinate directly with MBE’s internal legal and analytics teams to meet tight court deadlines.
    Minimum Qualifications
  • Active CPC credential (AAPC) — required.
  • 5+ years’ recent experience in professional-fee or facility coding, revenue-cycle auditing, or utilization review.
  • Strong command of CPT/HCPCS, ICD-10, RVU methodology, and Medicare & Medicaid fee schedules.
  • Ability to translate complex billing data into plain-English conclusions suitable for judges and juries.
  • Reliable high-speed internet and proficiency with Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets.
    Bonus Points
  • Additional certs: CPB, CPMA, CRCR, CCS, RHIT/RHIA, etc.
  • Prior expert-witness, utilization-review, or payer-audit experience.
  • Spine / orthopedic surgical coding expertise.
  • Familiarity with Florida HB 837 or Georgia benchmark statutes.
    Compensation & Logistics
  • 1099 contractor status — you invoice MBE.
  • Pay options: per-case flat fee, hourly audit rate, or customized package for high-volume practices.
  • Most work performed remotely; occasional local travel for testimony or records pickup (mileage reimbursed). You will be paid additionally if have to testify or are deposed
  • Contractors provide their own professional liability coverage.
