CGHS - Assistant/Associate Professor Public Health Dental (remote)

A.T. Still University's College of Graduate Health Studies (ATSU-CGHS) is seeking a non-exempt, full-time Assistant/Associate Professor of Public Health. This position reports to the Chair of Public Health in the College of Graduate Health Studies. This role will also involve active collaboration with the Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health (ASDOH). This faculty member will teach dental public health courses and serve as a mentor to students co-pursuing their dental education with a public health certificate and/or master's degree. This is a remote position with occasional travel requirements.

    Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Develop and deliver web-based courses in public health and dental public health programs as assigned by the Department Chair of Public Health, demonstrating strong skills in online teaching, andragogy, and pedagogy.
  • Teach, facilitate, and coordinate student learning through regular interaction, leading content expert discussions, grading assignments, and providing constructive feedback, particularly in a remote environment.
  • Proficient use of the online learning management system (e.g., Canvas LMS).
  • Conduct independent research in public health, dental, or related areas, and contribute to collaborative research initiatives and grant writing.
  • Actively facilitate and mentor students’ and residents’ research projects and/or practicums in public health, with a specific focus on community dentistry and serving underserved populations, guiding students from proposal development through data analysis and dissemination.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with the CGHS Public Health Practicum Director and the ASDOH Senior Director for Community-Based Dentistry to guide dental public health students through their applied experiences and assignments.
  • Serve on departmental, college, and university committees as assigned, and engage in professional scholarship and service as appropriate.
  • Mentor students, particularly students in the CGHS Dental Public Health Residency and ASDOH students pursuing public health studies.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and revision, ensuring alignment with accreditation standards and institutional policies.
  • Support student recruitment and retention efforts in both CGHS and ASDOH public health initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned by the department chair, deans, or other institutional administrators.

Requirements:

    Education & Experience
  • A doctoral degree in a related field is required. A Master’s degree in public health (or higher) and/or a DDS, DMD degree are preferred, but not required.
  • Board Certification of the American Board of Dental Public Health is preferred, but not required.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience in a higher education/distance education environment, with demonstrated strong skills in online teaching, andragogy, and pedagogy.
  • Experience in dental public health or public health practice, research, or education preferred.
  • A strong record of research, publications, and service to the academic or professional community.
  • Thorough knowledge of instructional design and methodology specific to distance learning and adult education.
  • Thorough knowledge of principles of dental public health.
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and learning management systems.
    Personal Characteristics or Traits
  • Demonstrates patience and adaptability when working with faculty and students with varying experience levels in distance education and personality types.
  • Capable of performing duties independently with minimal supervision and as a team while maintaining confidentiality, collegiality, and positivity.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Skilled in decision-making and time management.
  • Excels in a remote work setting, while remaining prepared for occasional in-person responsibilities.

The salary range for this position is $104,000 to $156,000 based on experience and location.
