Role Description
- This role involves managing operational areas including ratemaking, actuarial pricing, and system oversight.
- Collaborates with Product and Underwriting departments to develop and implement new products and expand into new markets.
- Partners with business leaders to manage and optimize existing lines of business.
- Establishes and promotes best practices for actuarial analyses within the organization.
- Provides support in database management and system development initiatives.
- Works with Analytics, Underwriting, and Product teams to enhance rating methodologies, accurate pricing, and segmentation strategies.
- Analyzes rating programs and structures, assists in the maintenance of internal pricing mechanisms, and integration of pricing strategies with new technology and changes to underwriting rules.
- Leads efforts to develop, automate, standardize, and improve the rate indication process.
- Demonstrates intellectual curiosity to identify trends, potential issues, and their underlying causes.
- Evaluates tactical underwriting and pricing strategies.
- Effectively communicates sophisticated financial/actuarial information to varied audiences, tailoring communications based on audience needs.
- Establishes processes to communicate product performance and identify optimization opportunities.
- Fosters positive, collaborative working relationships with senior experts across the organization.
- Consistently delivers high levels of performance while operating in an environment of ambiguity.
- Promotes best practices for actuarial analyses and system development.
- Develops and manages a team of Actuarial Analysts.
- Provides tactical and daily direction to the team ensuring high performance and growth.
- Communicates Mission, Values, and other organization operating principles to direct reports.
- Establishes and maintains the overall work cadence and, in partnership with senior actuarial leadership, ensures performance and outcomes strive for excellence in delivery and customer experience.
- Ensures that the entire team is engaged and that leadership practices encourage development, recognition, and retention.
- Establishes and adheres to hiring criteria, on-boarding, and training requirements for incoming staff.
- Oversees the performance management and development process for the team and performs performance management duties, development planning and coaching for direct reports.
- Acts as a resource for team members to answer questions and solve complex problems.
- Manages budget, technology and other resources, workload, and customer requests for services.
- Ensures adherence to all Company policies and procedures and Compliance responsibilities.
- Ensures data quality, adherence to IT security guidelines, profitability and other risk-related metrics for self and members of the team.
- Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in actuarial roles within the Property and Casualty industry.
- Associateship in the Casualty Actuary Society (ACAS) designation required.
- Fellowship in the Casualty Actuary Society (FCAS) designation preferred.
- Minimum 3 years in supervisory positions preferred.
- Proven expertise in commercial lines pricing and modeling, with a strong preference for experience in Excess & Surplus (E&S) lines—particularly in developing tools and building models to support analysis of excess layer liability.

- Strong understanding of insurance products and industry practices.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to effectively develop and motivate direct reports.
- Proficiency in MS Office software and programming skills (e.g., SQL, R, Python).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with demonstrated expertise in numerous actuarial techniques, standards, and assumptions.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts to diverse audiences.
- Proven track record of driving innovation and process improvement initiatives.
