Quality Assurance 1st & 2nd Shift Supervisor

The Quality Assurance (QA) Supervisor is responsible for monitoring and enforcing quality and food safety standards on the production floor to ensure compliance with internal specifications, USDA regulations, and good manufacturing practices. This position oversees QA activities during the shift, provides guidance to QA Technicians, and steps in to cover QA duties in their absence. The QA Supervisor also supports documentation related to HACCP, food safety programs, and GMP compliance.

As part of House of Raeford's continuous improvement efforts, the QA Supervisor will also be trained on the FMX system, a digital maintenance and quality management platform being implemented to streamline operations, documentation, and compliance tracking across the facility.

    Supervision:
  • Reports directly to the QA Manager and works under their general supervision.

  • Requirements:Essential Job Functions & Duties:
  • Monitor the raw blending process at least once per shift to ensure procedures are followed correctly.
  • Verify raw cooking processes once per shift to confirm products meet required internal temperatures.
  • Check cooling processes once per shift to ensure product cooling is effective and compliant.
  • Oversee peeling and cutting operations to ensure product sizing meets specifications.
  • Supervise frying processes, ensuring product doneness, adherence to color standards, and hourly internal temperature checks.
  • Ensure freezing processes are effective (hourly checks).
  • Verify packing operations, including correct packaging materials, labeling, and date coding (hourly); scan labels as needed.
  • Check metal detector functionality every hour.
  • Conduct organoleptic (sensory) evaluations hourly, including taste, texture, and color.
  • Pull and retain product samples for sensory evaluation and shelf-life testing.
  • Place suspect product on hold, dispose of non-compliant items, or stop the line to correct issues.
  • Monitor and improve production methods for better quality and consistency.
  • Verify QA documentation and conduct quality checks.
  • Monitor and document lot numbers to prevent use of expired ingredients.
  • Ensure accurate rework documentation.
  • Perform daily thermometer calibrations and verify scale accuracy.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and uphold company safety practices.
  • Conduct duties with integrity, fairness, and adherence to company ethics and environmental policies.
  • Learn and utilize the FMX system for recording inspections, managing tasks, reporting non-conformances, and tracking corrective actions.
    Secondary Functions & Duties:
  • Document room and freezer temperatures twice per shift.
  • Conduct daily GMP inspections and monitor SSOP implementation.
  • Perform weekly swab/sponge tests.
  • Bag STP as needed.
  • Review QA and production paperwork each shift.
  • Supervise QA Technicians and their daily responsibilities.
  • Collect and prepare lab samples as needed.
  • Complete pre-shipment reviews when required.
  • Compile and send daily quality reports.
  • Support communication and training on food safety and quality standards to production teams.
  • Assist with internal and external audits.
  • Contribute to training, coaching, mentoring, and professional development of QA team members.
  • Be flexible to work second, third shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Enforce company rules, policies, and procedure.
    Qualifications / Experience:
  • Must complete HACCP, SSOP, and thermometer calibration training within the first 30 days of assuming the role.
  • Must complete FMX system training to effectively support digital QA and maintenance management tasks.
  • Additional QA-related procedural training will be required.
    Physical and Mental Requirements:
  • Must be physically able to work in all production areas, including standing, bending, twisting, stooping, and lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Must be able to read and interpret USDA regulations and company standards.
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in documentation.
  • Proficient in basic math: addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions, percentages, and basic formulas.
  • Basic computer skills necessary, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel and FMX for data entry and report generation.
