Railroad Bridge Repair Foreman - Timber Preservation

The KRS team is looking for a dynamic individual that is highly self-motivated, with strong communication and collaboration skills to lead one of our mobile timber preservation bridge crews.

Compensation

The starting wage for this role will be between $90,000 and $110,000 per year to commensurate with experience. Our daily Lodging Allowance begins is $105 per day, including scheduled weekends.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage daily operations at job site, to include:
    • Supervision of crew (5-8 employees)
    • Lead daily job briefings and safety meetings
    • Understand and work in accordance with the overall project schedule
    • Oversee and plan for worksite access (rail, roads, private property, etc.) and secure any necessary permissions
    • Ensure proper setup, safe operation, and inspection of equipment
    • Communicate any personnel changes or concerns to your Project Manager immediately
    • Assembly, operation, and recordkeeping (tonnage) associated with piledriving
  • Work together with Project Manager on a daily basis to communicate production goals and quality specifications of work, discuss concerns that have surfaced (around people, resources and methods, material or equipment use, extra or out of scope work), and ideas to help team achieve project goals
  • Ability to operate ½” drill and generator, impact wrench, pneumatic tools, hydraulic tools, magnetic drill, torch and chain saw. Ability to use lineman gear at heights, D-handle spade (shovel), sharpshooter (shovel), crowbar, and prybar
  • Assist in treating of Bridge Timbers and ascending/descending slopes with rough terrain
  • Oversee the installation, use, maintenance, and uninstall of scaffolding
  • Possess a Class A CDL and operate hy-rail equipment (willing to get Hazmat endorsement)
  • Ability to Identify bridge pile groundline treating candidates, identify bents in water to treat with TimberFume, and Record data for final bridge reports.
  • Order the necessary materials needed to complete the project
  • Accurately report crew work hours and complete daily production reports by established deadlines
  • Ensure the training and development needs of employees are met, along with performing regular employee evaluations.
  • Monitor and manage crew productivity. Ensure ongoing efforts are made to improve productivity
  • Understand and follow company policies and procedures
  • Enforce company policies (including safety related rules/procedures) and ensure the employees are adhering to them
  • Exercise proper care, maintenance, and operation of company equipment
  • Arrange equipment repairs or rentals as needed to complete the project
  • Work in collaboration with all departments (Engineering, Operations, HR, Safety, etc.)
  • Support the Koppers ZeroHarm safety culture by collaborating with the Safety Department
  • Monitor crew compliance with all DOT regulations which include completing daily E-logs, truck inspections, fuel records, and weekly reporting.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of job specific tools and equipment, necessary to perform all work tasks (examples are: electric drills, generator driven pumps, lineman/climbing gear, shovels, pickaxes.)
  • Knowledgeable in setup and inspection of various types of scaffolding
  • Knowledge in different types of bridge construction, the structural significance of their components and methods of repair
  • Ability to successfully complete gas mask, lead exposure, respirator usage and fall protection training programs.
  • Supervisory experience directing and organizing work crew
  • Travel on a 6-week rotation, 100% of the time. The company provides transportation from job site to job site in company vehicles. Teams work on a rotational schedule of 6 weeks on with a 7th week off. There is typically a 2 day weekend during work weeks that is separate from the week off during the rotation.
  • Basic computer/electronics knowledge to support daily use of smartphone, laptop, etc. for completing reports and communicating
  • Proven experience with and willingness to focus on safety policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work as a team to jointly carry out assigned tasks
  • Current Driver’s License with a favorable driving record (Class A CDL preferred)
  • Experience with and ability to work at heights
  • Ability to gain and maintain Erailsafe clearance
  • High School Diploma or GED
