    DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Determine acceptability of system-referred New Business, Change Requests and Renewals within level of authority.
  • Continue professional development.
  • Ensure accurate data for the Homeowner/Mobile home book of business.
  • Review amendments to existing policies for acceptance, modification, or declination.
  • Communicate underwriting decisions to agents, insured’s, and others in a manner which will promote positive working relationships.
  • Underwrite and process bulk changes.
  • Enter specialized data.
  • Recommend termination of existing accounts when appropriate, or after all other recommendations for modification have failed or been refused. Determine whether risks should be forwarded to Brokerage.
  • Productivity/volume of work.
  • Quality of work output and results.
  • Customer satisfaction levels.
    OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES/REQUIREMENTS
  • Participate in special projects and meetings.
  • Guide Associate Case Underwriters and assist in making sound underwriting decisions.
  • Educate and assist in training summer interns.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

The employee must be able to organize, prioritize work and manage time wisely; must have knowledge of office administration procedures and the ability to operate most standard office equipment. The employee must pay attention to detail in composing and proofing materials. Must be self-motivated with initiative and ability to make sound underwriting decisions and accept responsibility for those decisions. Be flexible to respond to unexpected situations that require immediate attention. A high level of confidentiality is to be maintained by the employee. Must have excellent people skills such as diplomacy, tact, patience, good listener and communicator.

QUALIFICATION, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

College degree; or insurance related designation required. A minimum of two years insurance experience required in underwriting, claims, or sales. Continued involvement in professional continued education preferred.

Completion of AINS Series is required within 3 years. AINS designation will not be required if another IIA/CPCU designation has been achieved.

Language Skills:

Must be able to read, analyze and interpret procedures, regulations, instructions, manuals and other documents as required. Excellent telephone, public relations and oral/written communication skills are required.

Reasoning Skills:

Must be able to resolve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:

Must possess basic skills with personal computer; experience with Windows, and Microsoft Office Suite and internet.
