Homeownership Pre-Closing Officer I
Location: Downtown Harrisburg, PA (Onsite Only, free parking)
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM
Pay: $26 - $27/hour

    Abel Personnel's client is seeking an experienced Homeownership Pre-Closing Officer to support our Homeownership Programs Division. In this role, you will review mortgage loan packages submitted by participating lenders, ensuring they meet agency and industry standards to facilitate successful closings and support homeownership goals.Job Purpose:
  • Review loan packages submitted by lenders to ensure completeness, accuracy, insurability, and saleability on the secondary market
  • Ensure compliance with PHFA guidelines and those of Fannie Mae, FHA, VA, RD, and Freddie Mac
  • Work independently, demonstrating familiarity with mortgage guidelines and industry regulations
  • Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Review residential mortgage loan files prior to closing for compliance with program and underwriting guidelines (FHA, VA, RD, Fannie, Freddie, Ginnie)
  • Review documentation on loans with suspensions or conditions, resolving issues with lenders and supervisors
  • Discuss and resolve underwriting issues, providing guidance and support to lenders and team members
  • Field general questions from lenders and partners regarding PHFA’s home loan programs
  • Stay updated on current industry regulations and underwriting guidelines from Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Ginnie Mae, FHA, VA, and RD
  • Participate in periodic team meetings and quarterly division meetings
  • Complete special assignments and handle additional duties as assigned by senior staff or management
  • Work at the Harrisburg, PA office during scheduled hours, with possible telework or hybrid arrangements as determined by the Division Director
  • Qualifications:
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in residential mortgage lending, preferably as a processor or underwriter
  • Strong underwriting, finance, and accounting skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Experience with electronic submission platforms such as VirPack, Encompass, etc.
  • Ability to multi-task, exercise initiative, and exercise sound judgment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • A Bachelor’s degree is a plus, but not required
  • Excellent attendance history is required

This is a 6-month potential temp-to-hire based on performance.
