z/OS Assembler Programmer (z/OS/Java) - Direct Hire (East Coast/Detroit)
We are seeking a highly experienced z/OS Assembler Programmer to join our core systems development team. You will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing core components running on IBM z/OS mainframes, with a focus on system-level programming and integration with key technologies like IMS, KICS, and z/OS Connect.
The ideal candidate will bring 10+ years of experience, strong proficiency in High-Level Assembler, and familiarity with legacy and modern mainframe communication protocols (e.g., TCP/IP-based interfaces).
- Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain z/OS High-Level Assembler (HLASM) programs and system-level code.
- Support and enhance KICS agent and IMS agent functionality.
- Collaborate with infrastructure and systems teams to ensure robust communication through IMS Connect and z/OS Connect (TCP/IP-based protocols).
- Assist in dump analysis, low-level debugging, and performance tuning of assembler modules.
- Work within an Agile development framework (flexible, not strictly enforced).
- Participate in a collaborative panel interview process focused on real-world technical problem-solving and debugging scenarios.
Qualifications
- Required:
- 10+ years of professional experience in z/OS Assembler programming.
- Deep understanding of IBM mainframe architecture.
- Hands-on experience with:
- KICS agent
- IMS agent
- IMS Connect / z/OS Connect
- TCP/IP protocols
- Ability to debug and analyze complex dumps and system abends.
- Strong problem-solving and system diagnostic skills.
- Familiarity with Linux operating systems and tools.
- Preferred:
- Exposure to Java environments (not required, but helpful).
- Prior participation in Agile or Scrum environments.
